Chapter 8
POSITIONAL HEPADS
When you look at your body, how many fixed points of view do you have about it?
Not long ago, Dain worked with a couple that was constantly complaining about each other. He tried all sorts of approaches to help them, but nothing seemed to work. They wouldn’t let go of their complaints about each other.
He said to me, “I can’t get anything to change with them. I don’t know what’s going on.”
I said, “You believe they want to change. In reality, they don’t want to change anything about themselves. They just want the other person to change.”
This often happens. People don’t want to change. They want the other person to change so it’s right for them. This is what we do with our body as well. Are you expecting your body to change—but you’re not willing to change you? Do you realize that changing you is what would change your body? Oops!
A woman said to me, “I feel like I’m fighting a battle with my body. My life and my being are changing, and I’m stepping into a new place and it’s ‘Body, come along with me! This is fun.’ It comes along and everything is good for a while and then it sucker punches me.”
I asked, “What are you not being for your body that your body needs you to be that would manifest as the perfect relationship with your body? You have to ask your body to go along with the change you’re making, and you also have to look at where you’re not willing to change. When you look at where you’re not willing to change, you may see how you have created whatever you are resisting.”
Any point of view you take about anything creates a position or an outlook in your life—then, without your awareness that position begins to control your life. For example, when you take the position, “This is the perfect man for me,” can you see his faults? No, because he’s perfect. If you find the “perfect woman,” can you see her faults? Nope, she’s perfect. When your body seems to be in a battle with you, there are points of view you’re not willing to change. We call these positional HEPADs. Positional HEPADs are judgments, conclusions, decisions, points of view, and positions you have taken on. Whenever you say, “I believe x, y, z.” you’re taking on a positional HEPAD. These are the things we pull together in order to create the limitations in our lives and our body.
HEPADs stands for the handicaps, the entropy, the paralysis, the atrophy, and the destruction that you adopt as a point of view.
Handicaps are things that hamper you. They’re disadvantages, deficiencies, or hindrances.
Entropy is where you take something that has order and ease in it and make it into disorder—something that’s chaotic, not comfortable, and not fun.
Paralysis is where you eliminate your choice today in favor of the choice you made yesterday. Have you ever taken the point of view that you couldn’t
